Glaucoma is a chronic eye condition that causes gradual and irreversible damage to the optic nerve, which is essential for vision. It is commonly associated with increased pressure inside the eye and is one of the leading causes of permanent blindness worldwide. Because glaucoma often develops without noticeable symptoms in its early stages, many people are unaware they have the condition until significant vision loss has occurred.
Our clinic specializes in evaluating and treating patients with glaucoma and other conditions characterized by increased intraocular pressure and/or glaucomatous optic nerve atrophy. We provide care for patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. Our glaucoma clinic at both is equipped with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to prevent blindness caused by this disease
Glaucoma is often referred to as the “silent thief of sight” because vision loss occurs slowly and painlessly. Damage that has already occurred cannot be reversed; however, early diagnosis and timely treatment can significantly slow or stop further progression of the disease and help preserve remaining vision.
In the early stages, glaucoma usually presents with no pain or noticeable symptoms, and central vision may remain clear. As the condition advances, side (peripheral) vision is gradually lost. If left untreated, glaucoma can eventually affect both eyes and lead to severe vision impairment or blindness.
Although vision lost due to glaucoma cannot be restored, treatment is highly effective in slowing or preventing further damage. Treatment plans are tailored to each patient and may include:
We offer various surgical options to manage glaucoma, including trabeculectomy, drainage implants, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) techniques, which help reduce intraocular pressure and preserve vision.
